The 2 highest points you cant get to in basketball is either the NBA or the WNBA. The difference between both is that the NBA is for the men's league and the WNBA is for the women's National Basketball Association. But why can't women be paid the same amount as men do ?
I find it very sexist because not only do women not play in the men's league but they also aren't getting nearly the same salary's. For example the average salary of a WNBA player for the 2012 season was 72,000$ while the league minimum rests just above 35,000$ for rookies. But in the NBA the average salary was 5.1 million dollars. The women's salary multiplied by 50 is still not even close to the men's salary. I can't believe that the women dont get paid as much. Both are professional basketball league's. There the same leagues but the only difference is gender. But gender should not differ the prices.
The salary cap for a WNBA team does not even reach the 1 million dollar mark. It sits at 878,00$. But the NBA's salary cap is 58 million dollars. Also not as many fans buy tickets to the WNBA games compared to the NBA games. i don't know why either how many women average way more points then some guy's in the NBA but don't receive as much money.
Let's look at Joel Anthony. Joel currently averages 0.9 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.1 assists. With these extremely low stats he gets paid 2.3 million dollars. Compared to Maya Moore, Maya currently averages 18.5 points, 7.2 rebouds and 3.3 assists. With those amazing stats she gets paid 45,000$. This is just not fair. Girls are doing better the guy's in the professional leagues but don't get paid as much. Also Maya has won the most valuable player award for the WNBA in 2014. Joel Anthony never won that award.

In conclusion, gender should once again not change the fact that they are both National Basketball Associations. So they should be getting the same treatment and fame. I find that there are many players in the WNBA that are easily better then the guys who play in the NBA. So women should be treated equally as men.

I love the message of your blog: No matter your race, gender, height, etc. basketball or any sport for that matter, should be for you. I agree that a lot of it is unfair. The salary difference between the men and the women just blew my mind. What can we do about it so that we are even across the board?
ReplyDeleteA few issues:
- Spelling / Grammar/ Typos (A few run-ons, lowercase ‘i’, “He told his girlfriend "Don't bring black people to my games" said Donald Sterling”, cant , your vs you’re, “which can intimated other players”, there vs their, Mean while, capitalization, leagues vs league’s, etc.)
- Some formatting problems such as a awkward shutterstock background, missing images or images that aren’t loading, “2-Chronologic order3-sentence dont make sence fix them up” in one of your posts, etc.
- A lot of facts and stats when what we are looking for mainly is your opinion.
- Opinion too brief at times and / or the ‘why’ of your opinion is not clear.
- Repetition (Glory road used in 2 separate posts).
Questionable sources. A quick google search reveals the first black player joined in the 50-51 season, not the other way around. http://www.nba.com/history/season/19501951.html + Sterling was NOT commissioner of NBA as far as I can tell.
- A few more videos actually in our posts vs linked in would really help a lot of your arguments.
- Not all posts are about bigotry. James vs Curry for example, or Irving vs Curry.
Good job overall though.
Hello there Ellio, your blog looks really good. All of your posts are very interesting and I have learned a lot of stuff I was never even aware of before.
ReplyDeleteHello. Honestly, they should pay the athletes based on how well they perform, not based on 'who' or 'what' they are. Paying someone averaging less than one point per game 2.3 million dollars? That doesn't seem really fair when Maya Moore's point average is higher than most of the players in the NBA.
